Wow, I bet you can’t guess what movie this is for!

Okay, well regardless of how I feel about Pocahontas, she still deserves a bake, and the cool thing about fry bread is 1) it’s ridiculously easy and 2) I only made one substitution, and it’s one of the easiest products to find: soy milk

What you will need for this recipe:

  • 3 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup soy milk
  • cinnamon
  • sugar

It’s as simple as it sounds- make a bread dough, roll it in pieces, fry, enjoy.

Actually, the first thing you should do is heat the oil in a pan to 350F. Then we prepare the dough – combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl, then add the milk and stir until it just holds together.

Knead the dough lightly on a floured surface. Then, split it into 4 pieces and shape each one into a ball. With your floured rolling pin, roll each ball into a circle about 1/4 inch thick. Make a small indent in the center of each round

Carefully fry the dough 1 or 2 pieces at a time. Fry them for 1-2 minutes on each side, until they’re lightly browned.

Sprinkle the fry bread with cinnamon and sugar, or drizzle it with syrup.
