The Fox and the Hound is one of my favorite Disney movies from before the Disney Renaissance. I wanted to think of something southern, and it also has “puppy” in the name. So, perfect!
For this recipe, you’ll need:
- 1 “egg”
- ⅔ cup soy milk
- 1 ¼ cups cornmeal
- ½ cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ cup sweet corn
- 4 green onions
- 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced
First, preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, then whisk together the fake egg and soy milk. In a separate bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, baking powder, and sugar.

Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix well. Then, add in the corn, green, onions, and jalapeno, and combine.

Spoon the batter, one tablespoon at a time, onto a baking sheet prepared with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown, and let the hush puppies cool slightly before serving. They’re best with a bit of butter!
